KicPocket

The KicPocket arrived and two days later it was the perfect Michigan fall day; sun shining, leaves full of color and the temperature crisp.  I opened the box to reveal a hardy carrying case with the name of the product prominently placed.  I emptied the contents of the bag to find two sets of directions, one in English, the other in Spanish.  The KicPocket went together nicely and my brain instantly jumped into gear with some creative ideas for how to use it for games, teaching and practice.  Would it rise to the challenge?  I easily maneuvered it into place and began with some mellow kicks and then moved on to some more aggressive shots.  It was surpassing my expectations!  I grabbed two of my favorite young soccer players, Eric 11 and Daniel 9.  We quickly devised a game. The object, kick it up the center and to the top to score a point for yourself.   Whoever made it to 11 first was the champ.  We had a blast!  We eventually grabbed a fourth player and moved on to a 2 vs. 2 game.  Again, tons of fun!

I am very pleased with the kickpocket to say the least.  It proved to be very durable during our sometimes aggressive play and did return the ball every time.  I will definitely incorporate it into some of my team exercise videos and recommend it as a great practice tool.

Games:

Use the kick pocket as a goal and play 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, 3 vs. 3 and so on.

In order to score a player must kick the ball up the kick pocket so it touches the top.

Example Drills:

First Drill

  1. Form a single line three feet from the front of the kick pocket.
  2. Each player will take one touch to trap the ball then one touch to pass the ball up the center line of the kicpocket
  3. Tell them they must strike the ball with the inside of their foot.
  4. After hey take their turn they return to the back of the line.

* You can also do this drill with one touch instead of two touch.

Second Drill

Shoot the ball as if you where taking a shot on goal.  Shoot the ball on the ground with your laces so it goes up the middle white line and hits the top.  The ball will return to you and repeat.

* These drills will help you with kicking, passing and accuracy.
